Hiking matters #63: The Eid-al-Fitr long weekend / Climbs in Bakun and Nagsasa Cove
The Eid-al-Fitr is a day of fasting that marks the end of Ramadan for our Muslim brethren. This year the Eid-al-Fitr is on September 20 and the day after that is a day of celebration. It is also a national holiday that forms part of another long weekend in our calendar. Three years ago, I was in Zamboanga and Tawi-Tawi during the end of Ramadan and I had the privilege of climbing Bud Bongao in Tawi-Tawi and it was a very memorable experience.
This year I will be climbing the Bakun Trio of Mts. Tenglawan, Kabunian, and Lobo with my friends from September 19-21, 2009. We’re looking forward to meet new friends in this climb and we’re inviting up to five (5) climbers to join us in our trek. Departure is 18 in the evening and arrival is evening of the 21st. Budget? Around 2000+ including transpo from Mania. If you want to join us, you can email info@pinoymountaineer.com or text 09223487619.
The YABAG Mountaineers also told me that they will be having an open climb in Nagsasa Cove via Mt. Nagasa in Subic, Zambales from Septmber 19-20, 2009. As the foremost mountaineering club in Zambales, they opened a land trail to the Cove just last August 29 in what would be a thid parallel, albeit easier, along Anawagin Cove/Mt. Pundaquit and Silanguin Cove/Mt. Cinco Picos. Email Miguel at miguel.mapalad@yabag.org for more details.
