Mountaineers as volunteers: what we can do to help

This week, the mountaineering community joins the rest of the nation in helping those who have suffered from last weekend’s Typhoon Ondoy. I know that many mountaineering clubs are planning relief efforts, missions, and other activities to help those in evacuation centers and areas that are still affected by the flood. Personally, I will be joining our Community Medicine unit in PGH will be in Cainta, Rizal this Friday to offer free medical services to the flood victims.

A lot of people are still asking: what can we do to help? If your mountaineering club or group is organizing an activity this coming weekend, please let us know. PinoyMountaineer.com will post a list of upcoming volunteer events tomorrow for everyone’s information. Instead of climbing this weekend (with a new storm brewing) – I think it’s a better idea to sign up in one of these.

Yup we can all help in various ways. We (UP Mountaineers) are currently working with Lakbay and MMDA, pick up and repacking station and dispatch to afflicted areas. You can all help out there too. We also have ties with Ateneo and UP, but with so many avenues to help out it doesn't matter where actually. What are needed now are the following: 1. vehicles to transport goods, 2. volunteers to distribute and repack 3. available supplies of donated goods.
