Hiking matters #196: Outdoor shops in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

After the successful Bukit Tabur dayhike, Deeno, Fuad and Uncle Ben, members of the Orang Gunung Kuala Lumpur (OGKL), toured me around some of the outdoor shops in the Kuala Lumpur Area. Here are the details we visited, with my comments:

Comments: Heavy on rock climbing and mountaineering stuff -they even have ice axes and crampons! Reasonable prices, and many items are on discount.

Comments: I met the director, Mr. Ng Hock Soon, and he was very friendly and knowledgeable about gear. The variety of Lafuma and Millet stocks is pretty impressive. They are into the Malaysian hiking scene as well. Good prices for Millet and Lafuma.

Comments: Two whole floors of gear! Probably the most extensive in terms of hiking and mountaineering, with many brands and offerings, but I think it’s a tad more expensive than the Lafuma (Yellowstone) outlet. Shopkeepers know their gear.
