Hiking Advisory (November 2011): Mt. Apo’s Kapatagan Trail is off-limits to hikers due to security concerns
PinoyMountaineer.com periodically issues “Hiking advisories” as a form of warning to fellow climbers as regards conditions in various mountains. However, they are a matter of personal opinion and must be read in that light.
We are issuing a Hiking Advisory on the Kapatagan Trail of Mt. Apo after receiving from credible sources that local officials have decided to order a closure of the trail, citing “security issues”. This hiking advisory is issued today, November 16, 2011, and remains up until further notice.
Meanwhile, all other trails of Mt. Apo remain open although the Sibulan Trail might also be affected. We are recommending that climbers take the Kidapawan trail as the most accessible option for hiking the mountain at the moment. We are still regarding Mt. Apo as a whole as safe, and this advisory should not be an impediment to climbing the country’s highest mountain at the moment.

What exactly happend to the kapatagan trail? Can someone tell me exactly what happend. Cause someone told me they went there to mount apo use the kapatagan trail.
Sir Gid, I think were the ones who climbed Mount Apo that day. Our team, BORDS Mountaineering Team (9) plus another first timer group (5) climbed Mt. Apo using Kapatagan Trail in the morning of Nov.16, 2011 were so lucky we didn't encounter any danger during the climb.

Hi Sir Gid.. Thanks for this update. Hope this will be updated from time to time. We are scheduled to climb Mt. Apo early next year and any updates from you and to other climbers are valuable. Upon reading this, I contacted one of the guides in Mt. Apo. He said that they are climbing Mt. Apo now (Nov.16, 2011) via Kapatagan Trail. He said that if the Kapatagan trail is off-limits to climbers, they should have been barred from entering Sabros on their way to Mt. Apo. Nonetheless, any updates from you and others re: this Hiking Advisory is very helpful for us to decide whether to pursue climbing Mt. Apo or defer it to other dates. Thank you so much.
