Sweet Sixteen: The Sixteen Prominent Mountains in the 16 Regions of the Philippines outside NCR

The distribution of the Ten Highest Mountains of the Philippines is skewed, with most of the mountains belonging to the Cordillera and Kitanglad mountain ranges. Thus, an equally (if not more challenging) list ought to be composed the highest mountains of each region in the Philippines – thus securing a more representative distribution. Moreover, no one has ever completed the “Sweet Sixteen”! I wonder who will be the first one to achieve climbing the highest mountain for all the regions of the Philippines – and when!

Ilocos Region (Region I) Mt. Sicapoo
Cagayan Valley (Region II) Mt. Dos Cuernos*
Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Mt. Pulag
Central Luzon (Region III) Mt. Tapulao
Southern Tagalog (Region IV-A) Mt. Banahaw
MIMAROPA (Region IV-B) Mt. Halcon
Bicol Region (Region V) Mt. Mayon
Western Visayas (Region VI) Mt. Madjaas*
Central Visayas (Region VII) Mt. Kanlaon
Eastern Visayas (Region VIII) Alto Peak
Zamboanga Peninsula (Region IX) Mt. Malindang
Northern Mindanao (Region X) Mt. Dulang-Dulang
Davao Region (Region XI) Mt. Apo
SOCCSKSARGEN (Region XII) Mt. Matutum*
Caraga Administrative Region (Region XIII) Mt. Hilong-Hilong
Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Mt. Ragang

*Take note that technically, Mt. Pulag is the highest point for both CAR and Region II; Mt. Kanlaon for both Regions VI and VII; and Mt. Apo for both Regions XI and XII. Thus, while most of these mountains are tallest for their regions, we are favoring the term “Prominent mountains”.

Nice to know the "sweet sixteen" sir gideon. It is better to represent all regions by their loftiest and famous mountains.

I agree with Jeff. There must be someone out there, and it is only a matter of claim to fame as being the trend nowadays.

I went to Mindanao last Nov27-30 to personally see Mt. Hilong-hilong range in Cabadbaran. It is already very prominent as viewed from Butuan City. But as said by Mijan, it is risky to climb at the moment because of insurgencies, the same problem with Mt. Ragang.

I've seen also a very prominent mountain due West on the way to Surigao City. Might you have any information on this? Thanks.
